I finally made it to Mount Rushmore after being within 20 miles of it more than a dozen times. I’ve got to say that as amazing as giant sculptures of four of our presidents on the side of a mountain is, I was more in love with the trees! There is not a single tree on our 2,000+/- acre ranch, and I have almost forgotten how beautiful a forest is
We originally went to Keystone SD to meet two families who are going through 24 states in 18 days as they head to Reno Nevada to compete in the National Mock Trial Competition. That’s a lot of miles to cover!
They were both beautiful families and I’m glad that they were also able to come visit the ranch for a few hours. I took a couple of the girls on a ride through the hills, and everybody else hiked. Then we came home and had a big meal that my mom had made the day before, pulled pork, super cheesey macaroni, cowboy beans, and salade with rice crispy treats for desert.
After the meal, I gave the kids a demonstration on whip cracking and let them “take a crack at it”. There were several sore limbs by the time we were done, but everyone was smiling! A few of the kids actually got very loud, crisp cracks.
We were very blessed to get to meet them and I hope we’ll get to see eachother again soon! God brings people into your life that you never expected to meet, but once you do you can’t imagine life without them.
